Tearful Goodbyes Daily
Life as a funeral home owner and director has a lot of components,
Thereâs a lot of stress but comforting people has always been part of my personality.
Itâs only fitting that I shifted into a career that I help people,
The empathetic part of my being is what I always focus on.
Iâve seen countless people in my community give tearful goodbyes,
The eulogies have been nothing short of heartfelt.
So many people have internally shed tears as they try to keep their emotions in,
Especially the men but you can see the sorrow in their eyes.
Thereâs just one thing that always hurts us,
When we close the casket one last time before they head to the car for the burial.
Thereâs so much that happens when the casket closes,
Iâve seen people faint, outbursts of tears, people falling out of their chairs.
Imagine a funeral service with mothers who have lost their children,
When the casket closes and they lose it knowing theyâll never see their childâs face again.
The memories of what they had with their children will be through pictures and videos,
Theyâll never kiss, hug or comfort their child ever again.
Theyâll never get to see their kids graduate, get married, have children of their own,
This is all too common of an occurrence in Alphabet City.
The closed casket signifies a final goodbye,
That youâll never be in that personâs presence again.
Not only has their spirit and souls left their bodies,
But thereâs a sense of loss for the rest of your waking days.
Some part of peopleâs spirits internally die right in my funeral home,
Whether itâs someone who died of sickness, gun violence, or any other circumstance.
Closing the casket has changed thousands of peopleâs lives,
Over ten years of funeral services and the emotions are still raw and sad.
Vivid memories of closing caskets and remembering what happened after,
Itâs the stories you donât hear, see or even know about.
The tearful words spoken by so many people when someone dies,
Pastors speaking wonderful things about the person who just passed away.
Endings are bound to happen in our lives, we just question why,
Especially when it comes to those we know had a whole life ahead of them.
Casket closings and pallbearers are part of the finality of loss,
Thereâs a sense of knowing that your life will forever be changed with the loss of those you loveâ¦.
